The way a lot of people are watching TV and movies these days is changing fast, and in the world of streaming video there is mostly chaos. Few standards exist and fewer are followed consistently and there is no clear leader in most categories. We all know Netflix and there are many easy options to get Netflix streaming to your TV or Home Theater setup, including Roku, AppleTV, Google TV, various network enabled Blu-ray players and so on. The other features you get are inconsistent. If you want Amazon Instant Videos, Roku can get them easily, while with Google TV you go through the built in Web Browser which isn't usable more than a couple feet from the screen. If you have a lot of copy-protected music and videos in your iTunes collection, good luck getting them playing without AppleTV.
I set out to navigate this world and I've created this blog to make some sense of it to others. For now, I would just like to introduce the Glossary of terms related to video streaming in your home. Also, check out the other navigation items across the top of the home page for a quick summary of Media Servers, Media Clients and Internet Streaming Sources.
And please leave comments with new information or corrections. It is my intention to keep all of those pages up to date.
